Gator Bowl

hahahaha...hahahaha...oh geesh. I don't care if White is 100% and Slaton is 110%...if you can't play defense, you're not going to win many games. WVU is playing against a quarterback who threw 29 passes all season and they make him look like freakin' Peyton Manning. WVU good against the run? Made Choice look like Ray Rice or McFadden.

The onsides kick to start the second half should not have ever happened. How are you not prepared for that? That was huge because we could have pulled right back into this game had recovered that kick. Honestly, I felt it was coming...how are you not prepared for that? Stupid.

I'm just extremely disappointed. Pat White played a heckuva game in my opinion considering he was injured. He is the man. Schmitt is the man. Dan Mozes is the man. Slaton is still the man. Where's the man on defense? Where was Quinton Andrews? Where was Eric Wicks? Where was Antonio - I get bowled over every play - Lewis? Where was Jeff Casteel and the WVU defense? A backup quarterback and we can't get sacks or even scare the guy in the biggest game of his life? Can't force a turnover? Can't defend guys you know are going to get the ball?

----------------------------

Well, that's what I wrote mid-third quarter when GT went up 35-17. Then, somehow, WVU squeezed out 21 unanswered points, which included a freak kickoff problem for the Yellow Jackets. Slaton was out and Pat White decided he and Schmitt would put up a bunch of points and the defense decided to wake up. Amazing. So, I was starting to feel bad about what I wrote in the 3rd quarter. And Andrews made an interception so I felt kinda bad about calling him out earlier. But WVU had the ball at the 4-yard line and couldn't move the ball so McAfee had to punt from inside the endzone which gave GT great field position again. My optimism was waning...

--------------------------

Then WVU came up with a huge stop and forced a 54-yard field goal attempt that was short. It was all about pressuring the young quarterback in the 2nd half. And then the offensive line and Owen Schmitt started opening holes for Pat...Pat ran like Pat runs and WVU forced Georgia Tech to burn the timeouts and finally, finally, finally won the Gator Bowl in stunning fashion. 18 down to comeback and win by 3. They always say the first time is the sweetest. Well, this game was sweet. Congratulations to the WVU senior class. Congratulations to Dan Mozes. Congratulations to Pat White. Congratulations to Steve despite his limited action.

Folks, it's a GREAT night to be a Mountaineer wherever you may be!
