Oh Iran...Stop It

Well, Iran decided to pluck some British soldiers out of the water. Whether those waters were Iraqi or Iranian remains disputed. And the U.K. wants the 15 soldiers back. So, things could really get ugly -- well, even uglier -- in the Middle East.

It's obvious that the kidnapping (or capturing) of the British soldiers is in direct response to UN resolutions condemning Iran's nuclear ambitions. Iran's problems were exacerbated when Russia refused to deliver nuclear fuel to Iran due to non-payment. So, the Mahmoud's are getting a little desperate and, I anticipate, going to use the British hostages as bargaining chips in a high stakes game of international poker.

The United States has repeatedly issued statements denying any plans to attack Iran but are currently engaging in "war games" as a show of strength in the Persian Gulf area. Russian intelligence is saying that we are already prepared for an invasion and "a strike against Iran 'that would enable the Americans to bring the country to its knees at minimal cost.'"

All I know is that this is going to be bad for summer gas prices in the short term. In the long term, it could get very, very ugly. I'm very interested to see how the Democrats are going to respond to this situation. Stay tuned...

Anyway, awesome win for the basketball team last night. Couldn't get a better game in the NIT. One of those great, great plays that are pretty much completely ignored though because it was the NIT. But, as I said before, great for the players and great extra practice for the young team. They really have a shot at doing something special next year.
