WVU = BCS #5

Well, the BCS rankings have started and WVU is ranked #5. They are currently ranked below Auburn. Louisville is sitting at #7, behind Florida. I'm pretty happy with that ranking. First of all, I'd like to say BSPN was incorrect when they said WVU would be ranked #9. There's a big, big difference between 9 and 5, especially in college football rankings. They also said Louisville would be 5. I don't know how they come up with their mock rankings but they are way, way off. ESPN has enjoyed taking shots at WVU here lately...and I don't think that's very fair.

The computers have WVU ranked at #14. That's fine with me too. If you look at our schedule, that may be about right for a computer. The toughest part of the WVU schedule is ahead of us and if we continue to win, we will move up in the computer rankings which will help our standings overall. The humans have us at #4 which is about right for people who have actually seen the team play.

Let's look at who is ranked ahead of us: #1 Ohio State. They very well may go undefeated and be in the BCS championship game. Only real test left is Michigan. #2 USC. USC has been barely sneaking by opponents. They will lose. #3 Michigan. See above. #4 Auburn. Still a really tough schedule left plus they have a loss.

There's a lot of football left. Too early to even care about rankings but ESPN puts so much stock in them that you need to be ranked high. #5 has a good feel to it. If we beat Louisville, then we can start asking to be higher. Until then, I like where we're out. It will all sort out in the end.

In other news, Pittsburgh is killing KC. I'm not saying that they've turned it around completely but they sure look good. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. Baltimore and Cincy both lost which helps the Steelers a lot too. Maybe things are looking up.
